PagoNXt Payments Hub is a cloud-based, SaaS-modeled payment messages processor, designed to cater for the needs of financial institutions when it comes to the processing of A2A (account-to-account) payments. It is based on modern technologies such as microservices, developed for performance, scalability and resilience, with the capability to support payments processing in it’s entirety, i.e., end-to-end from their initiation to up to the exchange with clearing houses.

Through an active sharing of its internal resources and an implementation of the supported payment types (i.e., reused across customers with minimum configurations), PagoNxt Payments Hub establishes itself as a single platform for multiple schemes, servicing multiple customers in a single instance.

Today’s platform implementation is supported by a number of service locations available in distributed geographic areas. The specific location of the points of presence for each client is based on customer type, regulatory requirements and technical criteria, particularly, to minimize latency in the communications between the platform and the customer systems.

Within each of today’s four main locations (Ireland, London, Virginia and Sao Paulo), there is a variable number of instances of the platform in each location. Particularly in the case of the London and Ireland locations, there are two main instances of the service in each, with one fully dedicated to open market customers, hence fully segregated from Santander Group companies.

Each instance is composed of three, fully active, geographically segregated implementations of PagoNxt Payments Hub based in separated availability zones. Each AZ works as a full working node for the service, providing significant levels of resilience and fault tolerance even under severe conditions. Additionally, in line with data residence regulations and most importantly for customer data segmentation purposes, there is no sharing or exchange of customer data across platform installations.

Typically, the PagoNxt Payments Hub instance for each client operates from a location that is in close proximity to the customer. This approach is primarily driven by two factors: the regulatory requirement for data residency within the customer's country or economic region, and the need for reduced latency, which is particularly important for Instant Payments.

Where regulators impose specific requirements on payment processing necessitating the ability to manage payments across two different Public Cloud regions, this multi-region capability is supported in an active - passive configuration by PagoNxt PaymentsHub.
